"Ole-ole Bali"

Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there!!! If you want to thank your mom for being awesome, bring them out to somewhere nice like you would for your girlfriend/boyfriend! They would definitely feel appreciated (do bring your dad along, you don't want them to feel lonely, do you? ) So, I went to this restaurant which some of you guys might be familiar with - "Ole-Ole Bali". It's so obvious we are talking about eating in a Balinese restaurant. Ole-ole Bali has three branches : Sunway Pyramid, Solaris Mont Kiara, and Puchong and I went to Soho K.L. You might want to consider calling them for reservation which I did, because delicious food attracts loads of people. LOL.

Wanted to sit inside to snap the gorgeous interior but, we were being placed outside T.T haha. It was a romantic place for me but not for my parents because it was dim and the only light source that we could count on, is the oil lamp. =)

 Ugghhh...I was starving but no worries people, you don't have to wait long ^^

 This is a melon smoothies with a minty taste.

 You are wrong if you think this is a glass of cold chocolate drink. It's "pulut hitam" (black glutinous rice). The best! I have never tasted anything like this.

 The salad....It was like a bowl of treasure. I have found many goodies inside.

I can eat this all ALONE!  The famous " Bali trio" A-MUST-EAT ( grilled chicken wings, Balinese fish satay with lemongrass and fried squids) + salad in the middle.

Lastly, this is Nasi Campur Kambing Bumbu ( Spiced mutton rice) LOL. The "kangkung" and mutton are superb! I was not paid to do this, I truly LOVE LOVE LOVE all of them!

Short trip to Penang!

Pulau Pinang a.k.a Penang is a place with smorgasbord of  FOOD! I just came back from Penang with my friend and I  was carried away in search for delicious food in this awesome island. So, my journey started by taking a bus from K.L to Butterworth and took ferry to Penang island. Before I forget, please fill up your purse or pocket with loads of shillings because these come in handy when you are there. Why? It is because you will have to insert RM1.20 ( coins) into a machine before you could walk your way to the ferry (well, there is a counter ready for you when you need to exchange for shillings). I found out that buses in Penang, to be more precise the Rapid is the most convenient and is the cheapest way of travelling around the island. NO DOUBT.

Please keep in mind that, you'll need shillings if you want to travel by bus because you need to insert the money into a metal box (example RM1.40) that is not an automated machine, do not expect any return of money IF you accidentally put in more than you should, then the bus captain will give you the ticket. =)


Reached Butterworth at 7 something in the evening and went straight to Pulau Pinang. Surprisingly, we didn't start our journey hunting for our dinner, instead, we went around walking and looking at those beautiful buildings and architectures, it amazed me much seeing them conserve the heritage sites.
    

 
Then, here comes the food!!! We went to this really famous Nasi Kandar (I said famous because it was featured in a newspaper LOL). Although it was way past the dinner time, many people still occupied this place.

 We asked for some squids + fried chicken... I must say THE FRIED CHICKEN IS A MUST! I DON'T KNOW WHY I HAVE TO TYPE THIS IN CAPITAL LETTERS, MAYBE I JUST WANT EVERYONE TO KNOW THIS. SERIOUSLY.^^

So, then we walked around again! F.Y.I, the jetty will be closed at 12.00 a.m.

The next day....It rained =(
Woke up early to prepare for an interview at USM. Had a really great breakfast to kick start our day. Despite of the rain, we strolled down the streets with our umbrellas hunting for FOOD again. 

 This stall sells wonderful "chuu cheong fun". Guess what? He is pretty famous though (my friend saw him in a newspaper with a famous Hong Kong food critic.)

 The "chuu cheong fun" is completely different from what we have in Kuala Lumpur. There is no side dishes...just dipping sauce but it has the power to make you crave for more. It almost sold out. WE WERE LUCKY! Next, we went to the opposite shops and saw this old woman selling Hailam noodle?

For this, I was not too fond of it. I don't know why... =(

After that we went to eat this...ooooouu what is that?

 Jelly ? No, it's called " Ai-yu-ping" in chinese...don't know the exact name in english, sorry. Super awesome and cooling when eaten during hot weather. Well, you can get this at most night markets in K.L too, but nothing compares to this. It taste soooooo........ORIGINAL. Unlike those random ones with a slight unexplainable sour taste. Turn left right after you step out from the jetty and go straight for a few hundred metres away, this stall would be on your right hand side.

 Right next to this, there's an old man selling asam laksa.

See the orange-y thing inside that container? That's the "Ai-yu-ping "  

 Bought some fried food from the opposite stall. Banana fritters, anyone?

Random idea to go Jelutong for our dinner. I ordered "oo-chien" (Hokkien) which is basically fried oyster and the texture is something like in between omelette and pancake?

It may seem to be a bit messy but who cares?

"char kuey teow" not so recommended to eat it here.

Last day in Penang.
Had a breakfast in an old "kopitiam" (coffee shop)

Wan-tan-mee + "kopi kaw" (extra strong black coffee). After that, we let our instinct be our GPS and nothing could have forbid us to go wherever we wanted to go.Peace.

 My friend literally is a shy person....she prefer taking picture from the sideway =) LOL

Look at this piece of artwork! It's a real bike with painting on the wall...how creative!

Then, we headed off to Jalan Burma to buy this awesomely famous Him Heang biscuit.....it's located near the Union Institution.  

 Guess what? I bought 10 boxes of Tambun biscuit This is the small box with 16 pieces inside ( RM5.40/box) *happy face. Then we saw this man selling Apong right infront of the Union Institution....with only RM0.40 per piece? R u kidding me?

 There are two banana slices with a small dallop of sweetcorn paste in every piece of Apong. NICE!!! I didn't take any picture of the Apong because it was raining right after that...we were busy running to the bus stop. HAHA

We went back to Penang road to grab our lunch. It wouldn't be an official visit without a bowl of asam laksa. *slurrpppp

 and of course a bowl of cendol!!!

 So, that's it! ?We shall continue our journey next time to search for more goodies there. Have a great day!!!
